Understanding breast ptosis
Why breasts sag — and what's required to actually restore their position
Sagging breasts are a structural change — the breast tissue and skin have permanently altered their position. No exercise, bra, or non-surgical treatment reverses this.
Breast ptosis (sagging) occurs when the skin envelope stretches beyond its ability to support the breast tissue — causing the breast to descend on the chest wall. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuation, and the natural loss of skin elasticity with age all contribute. The severity is measured by where the nipple sits relative to the inframammary fold.
Exercise strengthens the pectoral muscle beneath the breast — but cannot recontract the skin or reposition the breast tissue. A well-fitting bra provides uplift while it's worn — but the breast returns to its ptotic position immediately when removed.
A mastopexy (breast lift) surgically removes the excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue, and repositions the nipple-areola complex to a natural height on the chest wall. The result is a firmer, elevated breast that maintains its position without a bra.
Skin Laxity
Stretched skin does not recontract. Once the breast has descended, only excision of the excess skin envelope surgically elevates it.
Nipple Position
When the nipple sits at or below the inframammary fold, exercise and bras cannot restore its position. Surgical repositioning is required.
Volume vs Position
Ptosis is a position problem, not a volume problem. Adding volume with implants alone may worsen sagging — a lift directly corrects the position.
Permanent Correction
A lift corrects the current degree of ptosis permanently. Natural ageing continues, but from a higher, more youthful starting point.
Dr. Ankit's surgical approach
The Mastopexy Method — elevation, reshaping, and position that holds
A breast lift is more than removing skin — it is reshaping the internal breast tissue and repositioning the nipple for a result that maintains its shape over time.
Ptosis Assessment & Incision Design
The degree of sagging determines the minimal incision pattern needed — crescent, periareolar, vertical, or anchor. Dr. Ankit selects the least extensive approach that achieves the required lift. Markings are made pre-operatively with the patient standing.
Internal Reshaping & Tissue Suspension
The breast tissue is reshaped and internally sutured into its elevated position — creating an internal scaffold that holds the shape. This internal support is what makes the lift last, rather than relying on skin tension alone.
Nipple Repositioning & Skin Redraping
The nipple-areola complex is moved to the natural apex of the reshaped breast — maintaining blood supply and nerve connections. Excess skin is removed; the breast is closed in layers with absorbable sutures.
The right time for a breast lift is when you've completed your family — pregnancy after mastopexy will not be harmful, but will affect the result.
Many patients add implants or fat transfer at the same surgery when they also want to restore lost volume. This combination is very common and completed in one session.

Final lifted position established. Scars maturing. Natural, proportionate result.
Am I a candidate?
A breast lift is right for you if you recognise yourself here
Breast ptosis is more common than most women realise — and highly treatable. These are the signs that suggest a lift is appropriate.
Nipples point downward
Your nipples point toward the floor rather than forward, or sit at or below the breast fold. This is the defining characteristic of significant ptosis.
Breasts have lost their position
Your breasts used to sit higher on your chest wall. They've descended significantly — particularly after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.
Deflated and sagging
The breasts have lost both volume and position — a very common post-pregnancy combination. Augmentation with a lift addresses both in one surgery.
Need a bra to look normal
Without a bra, the breast position is noticeably low. You feel uncomfortable in swimwear or without support. Surgery corrects the underlying position.
Early ptosis in your 30s
Significant sagging began earlier than expected — possibly genetic, or following pregnancy and breastfeeding in your late 20s or early 30s.
You want natural elevation, not volume
You don't necessarily want larger breasts — you want them where they used to be. A lift alone, without augmentation, is often the right answer.
Breast lift (mastopexy) is one of the most satisfying procedures in breast surgery — the change in position is immediate and dramatic. Dr. Ankit will assess your degree of ptosis and recommend the minimal technique that achieves your goals.

Breast lift techniques — matched to your degree of sagging
The extent of sagging determines the incision pattern required. Dr. Ankit always selects the least extensive approach that achieves the lift needed.
Crescent Lift
A small crescent of skin removed from the upper areola. Suitable only for very mild sagging — often combined with augmentation. Minimal scar.
Periareolar (Donut) Lift
Incision runs entirely around the areola. Suitable for mild to moderate ptosis. One circular scar around the areola — fades well with proper aftercare.
Vertical (Lollipop) Lift
Incision circles the areola and runs vertically downward. The most commonly performed technique — excellent reshaping ability for moderate ptosis.
Inverted-T (Anchor) Lift
Circles the areola, runs vertically, and extends horizontally along the fold. Used for significant sagging requiring maximum skin removal and reshaping.
Lift + Implant Augmentation
The most popular combination — implants restore lost volume while the lift corrects position. Performed in one surgery. Corrects the most common post-pregnancy presentation.
Lift + Fat Transfer
Your own fat (from abdomen or flanks) is used to restore volume while the lift corrects position. No implants — ideal for patients who prefer a natural volume restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before your consultation.
01 Will a lift also change my size?
A standalone lift does not significantly add or remove volume — it reshapes and repositions. If you also want to increase size, implants or fat transfer can be added. If you want to reduce size, a combined reduction and lift is performed.
02 How long do the results last?
A b-reast lift provides long-lasting improvement. However, the natural ageing process, gravity, significant weight changes, and future pregnancies will continue to affect the b-reasts over time. Most patients enjoy their results for many years.
03 Can I have a lift if I plan to have children?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding after a lift can affect the results. It is generally recommended to complete your family before undergoing mastopexy — however, the surgery does not prevent future pregnancy and is not medically contraindicated.
04 How much scarring should I expect?
The amount of scarring depends on the technique required. Scars are placed strategically to remain hidden beneath bras and swimwear. All scars mature and fade significantly over 12–18 months with proper aftercare.
05 Can a lift be combined with augmentation in one surgery?
Yes — this is one of the most commonly performed combinations in b-reast surgery. Augmentation with a lift corrects both volume loss and position in a single procedure and recovery.
06 Will nipple sensation be affected?
Temporary changes in nipple or b-reast sensation are common after mastopexy. Normal sensation returns in the majority of patients within a few months as nerve endings regenerate.
07 What is the cost of a breast lift in Delhi?
Breast lift (mastopexy) cost at Panache depends on several factors: (1) Technique required — crescent and periareolar lifts involve less surgical time than vertical (lollipop) or anchor (inverted-T) techniques, which are used for greater degrees of sagging; (2) Degree of ptosis — significant drooping requiring more extensive reshaping and skin removal adds complexity; (3) Combined procedures — lift with implant augmentation or fat transfer involves additional surgical time and implant/material costs; (4) Lift combined with reduction — performed as a single operation, priced accordingly; (5) Anaesthesia and facility — performed under general anaesthesia, daycare or 1 night depending on the extent. Dr. Ankit provides a complete, transparent cost breakdown at consultation after assessing your degree of ptosis and planning the technique. There are no hidden charges.
