What is Q-Switch Laser?
The Q-Switch Nd:YAG laser delivers ultra-short nanosecond pulses of high-intensity light energy deep into the skin. This energy is selectively absorbed by excess melanin — the pigment responsible for dark spots, patches, and uneven tone — shattering it into microscopic fragments. Your body's immune system then naturally clears these fragments over the following weeks, revealing progressively clearer, brighter skin. At Panache, our trained team uses dual-wavelength Q-Switch technology (1064nm and 532nm) under Dr. Ankit Gupta's clinical protocols, treating both deep and superficial pigmentation with precision and safety across all Indian skin types.
Conditions We Treat
The Q-Switch laser is one of the most versatile pigmentation treatments available, effective across a wide range of skin concerns.
- Melasma — the stubborn brown-grey patches common in Indian skin, especially on cheeks, forehead, and upper lip
- Sunspots and age spots (solar lentigines) — caused by cumulative UV exposure
- Freckles — can be significantly lightened or removed
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — dark marks left behind by acne, injuries, or inflammation
- Uneven skin tone and dullness — laser toning creates a brighter, more uniform complexion
- Acne scars with pigmentation — addresses both discolouration and stimulates collagen for texture improvement
- Tattoo removal — breaks down tattoo ink particles for gradual fading across multiple sessions
How It Works
The science behind Q-Switch laser treatment lies in selective photothermolysis — delivering energy at a specific wavelength and pulse duration to target pigment without damaging surrounding tissue.
The laser energy is absorbed selectively by melanin (or tattoo ink), leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.
The ultra-short pulse shatters pigment deposits into tiny particles — too small to be visible, but small enough for your body to process.
Your lymphatic and immune system gradually remove these pigment fragments over the following weeks, resulting in progressively lighter, clearer skin.
As a bonus, the controlled thermal energy stimulates new collagen production in the dermis, improving skin texture, tightening pores, and enhancing overall radiance.
What to Expect
A Q-Switch laser session at Panache is quick, comfortable, and requires no anaesthesia.
- The skin is cleansed and protective eyewear is provided
- The laser is applied in rapid pulses — most patients describe a mild tingling or rubber-band snapping sensation
- Sessions last just 15–30 minutes depending on the area
- Mild pinkness after treatment is normal and fades within a few hours
- You can apply makeup and return to your daily routine immediately
- Most patients need 4–6 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart for optimal results
For laser toning (overall skin brightening), we recommend a course of 6–8 sessions. For targeted pigmented lesions, results may be visible in as few as 2–3 sessions.
Aftercare
Post-treatment care is minimal but important for maximising your results and protecting your skin.
- Apply SPF 50 sunscreen religiously — sun protection is critical to prevent pigmentation recurrence
- Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment
- Use gentle, hydrating skincare — avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for 3–5 days
- Mild darkening of treated spots (micro-crusting) is normal and indicates the pigment is lifting — do not pick or scratch
- Stay hydrated and maintain your prescribed skincare routine between sessions
Cost
Pricing depends on the area being treated and the number of sessions recommended. During your consultation, Dr. Ankit will assess your pigmentation, recommend a tailored treatment plan, and provide transparent pricing upfront.
